Farmworld

Tethered Station

0A1C90c, known as "Valtara" to system inhabitants, is a farmworld and major planet composed of silicate rock.

The planet was known about prior to the ::01454 survey, but properties other than its high albedo and atmospheric composition were yet to be discovered.

0A1C90c is home to 23 million people as per the ::01860 census. Its primary industry chain is food processing and preservation, made with locally-sourced tubers, root vegetables, and edible mushrooms. Additional industry chains include bioplast synthesis and organotextile manufacture.

The name "Valtara" comes from the planet's primary religion, a folk-spiritualist movement that began in the early days of Outer Wilds colonisation.

Habitation

0A1C90c is a moderately developed world of frontier towns and light industry. Established in ::01454 after the conclusion of the Supply Crisis survey, it has grown from only 10,000 to its current population mostly through migration from Gossamer.

Much of 0A1C90c's habitation is made from Galactic Standard Modular Prefab Housing (MPH) units, as the planet offers minimal in-situ resources for construction and development other than terraforming.

New construction on the planet has been mostly supported by its orbital space station and in-system

Notable Features

Archipelagos

Most of 0A1C90c's landmasses are grouped island chains formed by the drift of geothermal hotspots through the ocean crust. Nearly all chartered islands have formed in the past hundred million years, suggesting the environment facilitates rapid erosion.

Efforts to reinforce land-sea interfaces such as cliffs and beaches with wavebreakers, shore substrate replacement, and bracing structures are ongoing in vulnerable locations.

Relaxed Plate Tectonics

0A1C90c's tectonic plates are distinctly fragmented, forming a web of faults that span the entirety of the oceanic crust. It is thought that, due to its relative youth compared to other inhabitable worlds with extant ecologies, the plates have yet to unify into the more vast bodies that characterise those worlds.

This means that, while there are frequent earthquakes, few are strong enough to be noticeable, and the displacement of oceanic crust rarely generates hazardous waves.

Proximal Moon

The proximity of 0A1C90c's moon creates dramatic tide ranges. While mitigated somewhat by the landmasses' nature as islands, the average tidal range at the equator is about six metres.

THOR-52 "Olympus"

THOR-52 is a geo-anchored THOR-pattern station in high orbit above 0A1C90c. Continuous carbon nanoweave cables hold it in position above the planet's primary spaceport, and provide rails for four large elevator cars.

Propositions were made towards its construction in ::01580 as a solution to the logistical organisation issues the growing colony was facing. It would be completed in its entirety in ::01624.

THOR-52 is home to 75,000 permanent residents and can comfortably house up to 100,000. While onboard, residents and visitors enjoy the station's expansive top-deck concourse where independent businesses offer wares and provide services, work and maintain the station in the central spindle and lower decks, and rest in the cosy housing units of the mid-decks.

Its 'friendly' name, "Olympus", comes from the primary religion of Valtara. Followers believe that their gods reside within Olympus, an extraphysical space typical of many theistic religions, and that their complex lives and interactions with one another directly influence the universe.

Single Moon

0A1C90c-1 is a rocky body composed of carbonaceous silicate rock. It is the only natural satellite of 0A1C90c.

The moon was discovered in the ::01454 survey. Its presence is thought to have affirmed the viability of 0A1C90c, as a pole-stabilising 'dynamo' moon is considered an ideal feature for habitable planets.
