Darkstar Radio!

Darkstar Radio! is an unauthorised quantum broadcast located in the Limited Authority Zone of the Graveyard. Its exact location is unknown, but the station has been broadcasting continuously since ::01127, making it the longest continuous broadcast in the history of quantum communications.

The broadcasts from the station generally consist of regional anti-authoritarian music, audio plays, casual talk sections, and local news, interspersed by 'advertisements' in unknown languages.

Much of the Syndication's understandings of the inner workings of the Limited Authority Zone is lifted from the broadcast, and many researchers are self-described 'fans' of its host, Doctor Darkstar.

Doctor Darkstar

The host and self-described 'headliner' of Darkstar Radio!, Doctor Darkstar is a charismatic alien being of unknown species, well-known for his levity and sharp wit. Their voice is best described as gravelly, with a marked but unidentifiable accent.

The true physical characteristics of Doctor Darkstar are uncertain, but according to his 'mail-in' sections, he is approximately 2.5 metres tall and weighs 400kg, has anywhere between eight and twelve legs at any one time, has multiple sets of antennae (and often decries a cultural focus on eyes, which he does not have), and is extensively augmented.

He is aware of the longevity of his broadcast and its notoriety within the Microcosm, but does not frequently acknowledge it.

History

Darkstar Radio! first began transmitting in ::01127, though no clear recordings exist of its initial broadcast. It was identified in the same year.

The Syndication Social Sciences Division immediately took interest, as while the frequencies were compatible with the QCN and Universal Basic was (mostly) being spoken, it was evident that the cultural context was completely alien to any existing Microcosm culture.

The General Sciences Division, however, did not share the same enthusiasm, as the transmission occupied a significant portion of the sub-resonant frequency band - a band that is able to achieve coherent transmission with lower power receiver units, often used for planetary co-ordination.

Drafts for interference patterns were being proposed as late as ::01140, until a coalition of interest groups, all fans of Doctor Darkstar and his broadcast, caught wind of the proceedings and took action. GSD council members were inundated with messages, leaving little doubt; the public were interested in keeping Darkstar Radio! alive.

The council would concede at the end of the year, announcing that it would not interfere with the broadcast. Doctor Darkstar would mark the occasion three days afterward with a "special set" composed of local music, interviews with cultural figures, and talk segments - all now confirmed to be originating from the Down-Below by the Social Sciences Division.
